regarding Small Groups.
Our Small Group Bible Studies (called Connect) are built upon certain
biblical foundations:
- Affirm the Bible as God's Word - God provided the Bible as the authoritative written revelation of Himself to humanity. He assigned to the Bible's message the power to bring people to faith in Christ and guide them to follow Him in obedience (2 Tim 3:15-17).
- Accepts the Great Commission as our mission mandate - Jesus commands His followers to acknowledge His authority over all things, to evangelize the world, to bring people into fellowship with God and one another and to lead them to become His disciples (Matt. 28:16-20).
- Recognizes God's active purpose of reconciling a spiritually lost world to Himself and provides a way for people to join Him in the work of intentional evangelism - God loves all people and desires that they hear the gospel and receive salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 1:16-17; 2 Peter 3:9).
- Affirms the Christian family as the primary institution for biblical instruction - God desires for parents to teach His Word to their children as an integral and natural part of daily living (Deut. 6:4-9).
- Engages people in spiritually transforming ministry opportunities - God urges His followers to worship Him by submitting their lives to His leadership, allowing Him to transform their lives (Romans 12:1-2).
- Enables believers to be servant-leaders and offers them opportunities to discover, develop, and use their spiritual gifts and abilities in service to Christ and His people - through the Holy Spirit, God gives Christians spiritual gifts and empowers Christians to use those gifts in His service (1 Cor. 12-13; Romans 12:1-8; Eph. 4:12).
- Provides a structure that enables the largest number of God's people to do the work assigned to the church - God urges the church as a body of Christ to be unified and to work in harmony to accomplish His purpose (Eph. 4:1-6; 1 Cor. 12-27).
- Requires leaders who are willing to be held accountable for calling forth and equipping new leaders - God intends for Christians to be accountable individually and collectively to develop new disciples (Matt. 25:14-30; 2 Tim. 2:1-2).
- Leads people to be involved in Bible study that facilitates the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in a person's life - God intends for people to engage in Bible study that leads to transformational living (2 Cor. 3:18; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)
